I also joined the Sequim Wheelers which is a nonprofit that gives bicycle rides to the elderly or physically challenged. I provide the pedal power on a pedal-assisted bike, and the other person gets the seat in front to take in all the scenery. Felt like a great way to give back. For some of the people this is their only chance to be outside.
In other news our community has started a farmer’s market for its residents, so I have been taking cookies to sell, and taking orders for pies. I probably made over 15 pies and over 50 dozen cookies throughout the summer. After one pie delivery I got dubbed ‘The Pie Goddess’. The cookie baking was artificially high because I baked for the Sequim Wheelers fund raiser. These efforts fit well with the new rule that Paula & I have: I can bake all I want, but the proceeds cannot be left for us to eat.
This fall we headed for TrikeFest in Portland where we helped with the setup. It gave us a good chance to say hi to our Portland friends, and start our fall travels. We dropped into the Bay Area to say hi to friends, and then started east. We had planned to drop into Denver to see my sister, but an early winter storm caused us to head further south.
Our goal is to arrive in St. Charles, Missouri this Thursday. We then have a week’s self-guided tour on the Katy Trail. This trail goes across the state of Missouri and is nationally known. It’s been on our bucket list, so we’re looking forward to it. Sally is flying out to join us, so we’ll be two trikes and a bike riding this trail for 240 miles.
Today’s ride was on the Frisco Highline Trail outside of Springfield, Missouri. We started in Willard, and only rode about 15 miles, as we had just checked into our camping area. More riding tomorrow though.
Here are some snaps of today’s adventure:
And last but not least for our trike riding friends with dogs.... (sorry I have to figure out why Blogger won’t let me rotate the photo.) Dog is riding in the BOB Trailer.
