Missoula, Montana -- the Bitterroot Trail

After dropping Sally at the Spokane Airport for her return to southern California, we headed for Missoula, Montana.  Little did we know that this is where my trike would complain so bitterly.

We found a nice campground at the Beavertail State Park. Beautiful sites beside a river. Quiet, with flush toilets, no showers. Unfortunately it was on the eastern side of Missoula, and our bicycling trail was on the west side. Oh well...

We tried riding the waterfront trail, but my trike was having none of it. Motor, control head, wiring? Who knows what the problem is, but Zach of Zach Kaplan Cycles in Alameda, California and Stefan of HP Velotechnik in Germany were both very responsive by email. Replacement parts are  going to join us in Fort Collins, Colorado at Rocky Mountain Recumbents where Rachel and company will try to make my poor trike whole again.

While on the evening ride we collected the following pictures:

Watch out for the bear, Paula! This is the University of  Montana's mascot.

The next morning I tried cleaning all the connections for the motor in an attempt to do another ride, this time on the Bitterroot Trail. More good pictures and a lovely Square Dance Campground (that accepts non-dancers), but alas, no improvement on the trike operation. In frustration we cut the ride short.
